![]() ![]() Winchester 52B Sporter bought Sep 94 s/n BS11XX. I don't think Browning 52 is any better than the USRA Winchester 52, except the look you like, like someone else has said.Īll these were bought NIB from retail stores here in Ohio.īrowning 52C Sporter bought Sep 92 s/n 01788NZXXX. My feelings: Miruko makes good quality rifles. Here is what info I can offer.Yes, like the others have said, They are all made by Miruko and I agree, to me they are both Good quality products from Miruko in Japan. Glad there are guys like you to help fill in the gaps!Ĭongratulations on finding this gun. Both Winchester 52B and Browning 52C have Winchester 52C Model triggers. Wish there were some better resources for looking up these things. A 1983 model in the perfect condition you describe is a real gem! There are also special contract runs such as "Leo Specials" which also had unique numbering.Ĭongratulations on finding this gun. There are other "special run" BT-99 serial number suffixes. if it's stamped "Invector", then the barrel was factory-threaded for Invector choke tubes. If no marking is present, look on the right side of the barrel, just forward of the chamber area. Check the barrel monoblock to see if there is a choke-code stamping that would indicate if the barrel originally had a fixed choke. 1983 to 1986 was around the time Browning was introducing their original Invector choke tube system (Invector-Plus came along later). Not sure if your choke tubes are factory original. Having an ejector is also nothing unusual for a Gen-1 BT-99. in fact, I believe the larger forearm is pretty much standard on nearly all Gen 1 BT-99s made 1977 and later. But, neither of these features is anything unusual. The "199" suffix might indicate the larger forearm you have on your gun (often called the "Competition" forearm), or it might signify a Monte Carlo stock. The "149" and "199" serial number suffixes are "general identifiers" for the Generation-1 BT-99, meaningful mostly only for Browning's database system.Īs you've already witnessed, Browning's own website is, unfortunately, missing a lot of detail. It's a 1983 production year as you've already determined. I don't think you have a special model of BT-99 (unless there's a lot of engraving/inlays that you forgot to tell us about!) ![]()
